Paul Lundeen, Leaders in Action Award, 2024

The Leader in Action Award recognizes an LPR alum whose life is a model of “leadership, risk, courage, entrepreneurship, and success while promoting timeless constitutional principles and impacting public policy.” This year’s recipient is Colorado State Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen, the consummate role model for those values, skills, and activities. His life and work set a high standard for the LPR family, and for everyone privileged to know and work with him.

Paul Lundeen doesn’t just talk about defending capitalism, the Declaration, and freedom – he shows up for work every day with those values at the top of mind. He is a proud graduate of the LPR Class of 2005, but even before that he was an activist in all the right ways – showing up, speaking up, choosing sides, volunteering in campaigns, making a difference.

Paul understands capitalism from personal experience. Over the past 30 years, he has built multiple businesses, paid taxes, met payrolls, and created wealth cognitive-training learning centers, real-estate development, landscape management, tree farming, investment management, and others. He understands freedom as a legislator who looks at every issue through that lens. He has maintained an unwavering commitment to individual liberty and personal responsibility through four years on the State Board of Education, two terms in the State House, and five in the Senate.

Despite more than a decade in politics, he has never lost sight of the primary values he began with. He opened the 2024 State Senate session by emphasizing the sovereignty of “the people who sent us here… a sovereignty that gives them authority to master and control their own government.” And he reiterated what should always be every legislator’s foremost goal: to “make the people of Colorado more free, to live the lives they choose, and pursue the dreams to which they aspire.”

LPR Chairman Bob Schaffer calls Senator Lundeen “one who adroitly advances principles of capitalism, projects the timeless wisdom of the Declaration, propels the Army of Freedom with aplomb, and adds considerable credit to our mighty program.” Paul Lundeen’s success and leadership – in both the private and public sectors – make him not only an ambassador for LPR’s program, principles, and lessons, but a living example of a “leader in action.”
